North Hornell Elementary School welcomed a special group of community members into the library classes for a meaningful and much-anticipated experience, reading with our students. This marked the second year North Hornell has hosted this event, and it continues to be a favorite for students and guests alike.

Through these visits, students not only enjoyed sharing stories, but also learned about the many careers that help support and serve our community. Guest readers talked about their jobs, explained how they help others, and gave students a real-world connection to the lessons they learn each day. Students eagerly asked questions, bringing the experience to life and making it even more impactful.

“Inviting members of our community into our school helps students see that learning extends far beyond our classrooms,” said Kate Wall, Principal of North Hornell Elementary School. “These moments show our students that reading connects us, and that every role in our community matters.”
This year’s guest readers represented a wide range of local businesses and professions, including:
- Cathy Thompson – Bus Garage
- Frank Brzozowski – Chief, Hornell Fire Department
- Marla Valentine – Store Manager, Lowe’s
- TC Burritt – PRO/Lumber Manager, Lowe’s
- Will Gardner – MST, Lowe’s
- Rufus the Red Raider
- Ted Murray – Chief, Hornell Police Department
- John Rosemier – Sports and Program Director, Hornell YMCA
- Jocelyn Acor – United States Postal Carrier

- Brooke Bertch – Assistant Principal, North Hornell Elementary School
- Kate Wall – Principal, North Hornell Elementary School
- Matt McHale – Local Farmer
- Jadie Faulkner – Cosmetologist

Events like this strengthen the connection between school and community, inspire curiosity, and remind our students that reading is a powerful way to learn about the world around them.
