Big congratulations are in order for the talented singers of the Hornell Intermediate Select Choir! This auditioned group of 26 5th and 6th graders, known for their beautiful voices, recently showcased their skills at the Six Flags Darien Lake Music Festival on Saturday, June 7th.
Twenty-four members of the choir made the trip to Darien Lake, ready to perform for the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) judges. They presented three songs, demonstrating their hard work. The judge provided feedback on both their vocal technique and their showmanship.
The anticipation built throughout the day, culminating in the awards ceremony. This is where groups receive their official rating and placement. This year, the Hornell Intermediate Select Choir had the unique distinction of being the only group in the Elementary Choir division performing that day.
When their scores were announced, the choir erupted in cheers! Out of a possible 100 points, our Intermediate Select Choir achieved an outstanding score of 98.8! This exceptional score places them firmly in the highest achievement bracket, a testament to their incredible talent, countless hours of practice, and the dedicated guidance of director, Dawn Hopper.
After their performance, the choir members were rewarded with a fun-filled day enjoying all the rides and attractions Six Flags Darien Lake has to offer, a well-deserved break after their impressive performance!
