Capital Project

Long-range plan

The district’s long-range facilities plan is a 10-year roadmap to making needed improvements and enhancements to school buildings and district facilities in a fiscally prudent manner. The plan was developed through close consultation with faculty, staff, community members and district leadership.

Improvements focus on meeting student needs through renovations of classrooms, updating building infrastructure and addressing safety.

The long-range plan was approved by voters in two capital project votes and includes classroom renovations (Intermediate School and High School), a two-story classroom addition (Intermediate School), roof replacements (North Hornell Elementary and High School), installation of a new turf installation, construction of a large competition gymnasium with elevated track and safety updates to all the buildings. This also includes installation of new tennis courts to replace the old ones that are severely damaged and currently condemned.

Current Construction

As part of our ongoing commitment to improving educational spaces, Hornell Intermediate School is slated for a capital project that will bring new classrooms and a refreshed learning environment for our students.

Construction has kicked off this summer (2024), with the first phase focusing on demolishing the single-story wing located at the front of the school. This will make way for a brand new two-story addition, providing much-needed classroom space for our student body.

During construction, the main entrance to the Intermediate School will be relocated for safety reasons. We ask that all community members and visitors respect any signage and fencing surrounding the active construction site.

Parking will not be affected. You can continue to utilize the main parking lot throughout the summer and the upcoming school year.
