Elementary Library

The North Hornell School Library provides a place for students to enjoy stories, explore books, express creativity, learn new things, work together, and have fun! We offer a variety of fiction and nonfiction titles for students to choose from, as well as several online student and teacher resources. Our collection of books contains many newly released titles.

During library class each week, students enjoy learning something new about books, listening to a story, choosing a new library book, and expressing their creative side in our makerspace area. The love of books starts at an early age and we hope all our students develop this love through the positive environment we provide at the North Hornell School Library.

Please visit our North Hornell School Library website for news and access to resources, including:

  • Destiny Discover: Online catalog of physical materials available in our library, searchable by title, author, genre, or topic with suggested reading/interest levels.
  • Online Resources: Reference and educational materials, purchased through our district, GST BOCES, South Central Regional Library Council and NOVEL NY. Available through a password-protected link. Need the password? Ask at your library!
  • Sora: The Sora App is an extension of our physical libraries with 24/7 access to over 11,000 ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines available on any device with internet access. To use this service, students must log in with their school email addresses.

Hours of Operation

The library is open Monday – Friday, from 7:30 AM to 2:05 PM.

Library Policies

Circulation Policy

Every student in our school comes to the library once a week for library class. Students check out one library book during this time and they may keep their book for one week before it must be returned or renewed. Library books are due on the day the student has library class. Students can return their books before they are due, but if they choose a new book, they must bring it back on their library day to be returned or renewed.

Overdue/Lost Book Policy

Our library depends on the ethical character of our students. Resources provided are shared by the school community and are expected to be kept in good condition, returned promptly and/or replaced if lost or damaged so that others are not deprived of their use. Students with multiple overdue resources will not be allowed to borrow new titles.
