Hornell High School’s athletic teams have been on a winning streak this fall season. Both the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams claimed Section V Class B championships. The boys’ team defended their title with a 1-0 victory over Avon, while the girls’ team secured their championship with a 2-1 win over Haverling.
The girls’ volleyball team also made significant achievements, advancing to the sectional quarterfinals. Individually, cross country runner Elisa Bodin excelled as well, finishing 3rd and qualifying for the state championships.
The Hornell football team dominated their first-round sectional matchup, defeating Haverling 26-0. The team’s performance in the Battle of Route 36 against Dansville Wayland-Cohocton was another highlight of the season.
A truly special moment occurred when the Hornell Raiders and DWC faced off at Alfred University. This unique event not only showcased the teams’ athletic abilities but also raised over $4,500 for the Golisano Children’s Hospital.
Coach Ismail Mehr praised the atmosphere of the game, stating, “Saturday night was nothing short of amazing. Mother nature provided a cool crisp fall evening made for High School football. For us, it was exactly what we needed before going into the playoffs.”
The game was a close contest, with the Raiders utilizing a “hurry up offense” to secure a victory. A crucial pass from Brody Flaitz to Aaron Mcinerney sealed the deal, showcasing the team’s determination and skill.
Hornell High School’s athletic program continues to impress, with dedicated athletes and supportive fans fueling their success.
