At the end of each sports season, the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) honors teams and individuals that excel in the classroom. All seven Hornell City School District sports teams–boys and girls soccer, cross country, boys football and girls swimming and volleyball–ended the season with 75% of the roster with an average GPA greater than or equal to 90%. NYSPHSAA also recognized 65 Hornell student-athletes for achieving a of 90%+ average.

“Hornell is known for its athletic achievements, but it’s important to recognize that our students are well rounded both on the field and in the classroom,” said Athletic Director John Cardamone.

Girls soccer and volleyball’s academic achievements stood out among the seven sports. The whole girls soccer team achieved a 95.96%, and 20 of the 24 student-athletes averaged over 90%. Girls volleyball had a team average of 96.64%, with 11 of the 13 student-athletes having a minimum 90% GPA.

In the fall season Hornell CSD Athletics had many notable successes. Girls volleyball caused an upset to the bracket, taking them to the second round of sectionals for the first time in ten years. Boys and girls cross country and girls swimming had multiple athletes compete in sectionals. Girls soccer made it to the sectional finals game, and boys soccer won its first sectional title in over a decade.

Congratulations to all fall sports teams for their achievements both in competition and in the classroom.
