Music to our ears: High School Junior named to All-National Chorus

Trey WoolwineThe Hornell City School District Music Department has had many alumni move onto professional careers in music. They have been a part of Broadway productions, performed at Carnegie Hall and have done sound mixing for pop stars.
Trey Woolwine (11th) is hopeful to someday add his name to this list.

Woolwine has been a member of All-County and Area All-State Chorus in past years. In August 2021, he was once again accepted as a member of the Area All-State Chorus, an honor achieved by only a few. Woolwine’s most recent vocal achievement is to become a member of the All-National Chorus.

Superintendent Jeremy Palotti said, “We couldn’t be more proud of Trey’s amazing accomplishment. His work, dedication, and resilience shows through with his selection to this elite choir. We couldn’t be more excited to have him represent the Hornell City School District and pave the way for his peers in subsequent years.” He is the first musician to reach this level of as a student in Hornell.

The All-National Chorus is sponsored by the National Association for Music Educators (NAfME). Historically, the All-National Chorus is comprised of 200 to 300 vocalists from across the country. High School Principal Scott Carroll said, “Trey exemplifies and embodies what it is to be a Red Raider. We are proud and grateful for him to represent HHS at the highest level of his craft.”

When asked about working with Woolwine, Director of Vocal Music Christopher van Leeuwen said “he has always relentlessly worked to better himself and those around him through music. Without hesitation, he is one of the most talented, mature, and determined musicians I have ever
worked with.”

In seventh grade, Woolwine knew music was a long-term passion for him. “I want to do this [music] when I don’t feel like doing anything else,” he said. “Every year I’m going to push forward and dig into as many places as I can.” Over the years, he has also been a member of the All-County and
All-State bands.

Edward A. Belin, former Marching Band director said,
“It was always my pleasure to watch Trey work hard
and improve each week he helped the band be better.
I expect we’ll continue to hear great things about him
in the future.”

The All-State Chorus will be performing on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at 7:30 pm in the Eastman Theatre. The All-National concert will be held virtually in March 2022 to coincide with Music In Our Schools Month®.
