PSAT

What is the PSAT?

The Preliminary SAT (PSAT), also known as the National Merit Qualifying Scholarship Test (NMSQT), is a test for sophomores and juniors that help you practice for the SAT. The test also enables you to enter the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) scholarship program.

When is the PSAT?

Wed., Oct. 11 for 10th and 11th graders.

How much does it cost?

$18
Juniors may qualify for a fee waiver, check with your school counselor for more information.

How can I register?

To register for the PSAT, you have to contact your high school counselor for the test. Please call (607)324-3702 to register. Make sure you know the date, time, and location of the test ahead of time. Online registration for the PSAT/NMSQT is not available.

Registration Information

  • Register online at the SAT College Board website
  • Select Hornell High School Test Center as the SAT Exam Location
  • Fee waivers are available in the Guidance Office for those who are eligible for free or reduced lunch
  • On test day, your printed admissions ticket and photo ID’s are required
  • Phones, Smart Watches, and other digital devices are prohibited at the testing site.
